The World Heritage Sites of Turkey are places that are culturally or naturally significant to human culture as described in the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage Convention, which was established in 1972. Turkey became a member of the convention on March 16, 1983, allowing its historical sites to be included on the list. Today, Turkey has 19 World Heritage Sites, including seventeen cultural properties and two mixed ones. Turkey also has 84 places waiting to listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
