Our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel at 10:00 and first drive you to one of the local markets in Cappadocia (except Tuesday and Thursday) and you will get some ingredients for what you are going to cook for yourself. We will then take you to a local house to start preparing the delicious food. Firstly, you will learn how to cook the most famous soup in Turkey: lentil soup. Lentil is grown in Turkey and it has become the most popular soup in Turkey for centuries and it offers really a very good taste. While your lentil soup is being cooked, you will start the process of cooking Karniyarik (riven belly). Eggplant plays a very important role in Turkish Cuisine and Karniyarik is one of the most delicious recipes with it. Karniyarik is a meal consisting of eggplant stuffed with a mix of chopped onions, garlic, black pepper, tomatoes, parsley and ground meat.
The next meal will be Sarma which is also very famous in Turkey. Sarma can be described as stuffed vine leaves cooked with olive oil. You will learn the tricks on choosing good vine leaves and rolling techniques from our local woman who keeps surprising you. This will probably be the most interesting and enjoyable part on your tour. While we are in the local market, we will get some fresh fruits as our dessert. Finally, our local woman will offer you some Turkish Coffee. Even though Turkey have no coffee at all, the way we are preparing made its own culture and it started to be called as Turkish Coffee. You will learn how to make it and also the traditions of drinking a coffee and history of it.
After this great experience, we will drive you toa local village in Cappadocia. There are still lots of villages in Cappadocia which has no touch of tourism meaning no hotels or restaurants. We will be the only ones in the village that speak English:). We will walk through the village and try to speak with the locals about their lifestyle and also work. If we are lucky enough, we will see some people working in their wineyards or riding a donkey. Finally, we will visit the main coffeehouse in the village and our guide will find you some locals to play our national game OKEY.
