Göreme, a town in Cappadocia, is a historical region of Turkey located among the “fairy chimney” rock formations. It is in the Nevşehir Province in Central Anatolia and has about 2,000 inhabitants.
For good cause, several travel publications have declared Göreme as one of the world’s most beautiful villages.
Goreme is half buried into the hill and contains a hidden cave complex with rooms. The village is known as the tourism industry center of Cappadocia because many of these traditional dwellings have been converted to boutique cave hotels.
Goreme Open Air Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located about 1 km far from Goreme town center and has 9 churches to visit of some are quite amazingly adorned with paintings of Jesus and his life.
The El Nazar (Evil Eye) Church and the Saklı (Hidden) Church, both of which have frescoed ceilings, are both located on a short walk distance from the center.
Goreme is a popular starting point for hikers seeking to go on a trek, with many of the main valleys branching off from here providing a variety of routes that lead past strange rock formations known locally as fairy chimneys and hidden cave churches leading up to stunning panoramic views.
Goreme also has over 100 travel agencies (we are one of them:)) and many balloon companies that you can book your entire trip in Cappadocia. Please check our things to do page to get more understanding of the area.
