Izmir is a major city in Turkey, with a population of 4 million people. It’s the country’s second-largest port, after Istanbul. It’s a lively metropolis with more than half of its population under 30 years old. The city has tens of thousands of university students, who educate scientists, artists, business executives, and academics.

The city of Izmir has been home to many different cultures throughout history. The Persians, Ancient Greeks, Assyrians, Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans are only a handful of the dozens of civilizations that Izmir has hosted over its long history.

The city’s historic architecture continues to tell a tale of past empires and eras, with all of its majesty. The historical Clock Tower to the ancient Agora market (an open-air museum) that dates back to the 4th century, as well as the colorful Kemeratlı Bazaar and its Ottoman era Kizlaragası Han (caravanserai), nearly every street in Izmir has some form of reminder from the past, whether it’s a classic home, a place of worship, or a landmark.

Izmir has a lot of places to visit such as Ephesus Ancient city, House of Virgin Mary, Basilica of St. John, Pergamon Ancient City and much more.
